Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder: Service and Repair
IGNITION LOCK CYLINDERRemoval and Installation
NOTE:
- When a new ignition lock cylinder is installed, the luggage compartment lid lock cylinder and door lock cylinder should be installed as a set. This eliminates carrying an extra key which fits only one lock. If a new key is used, the new key code number is stamped on a metal tag attached to the key.
- Individual lock cylinders are repaired by discarding the inoperative cylinder and building a new lock cylinder using the appropriate lock repair package. The lock repair package includes a detailed instruction sheet to build the new lock cylinder to the current key code of the vehicle.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least 1 minute to allow for depletion of the restraint system back up power supply.
2. Remove the steering column cover.
3. Remove the inner instrument panel finish panel.
4. Turn the ignition key to the ON position.
5. Using a small flat-bladed screwdriver, press the ignition switch lock cylinder release button.
6. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder.
7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Lubricate the ignition lock cylinder before installation.
