Hydraulic System, Lift Cylinder and Motor

HYDRAULIC SYSTEM, LIFT CYLINDER AND MOTOR

Removal

NOTE: The convertible top hydraulic components are removed from the vehicle as an assembly. The hydraulic components are individually repaired and the system must be bled before being installed into the vehicle.

1. CAUTION: To prevent any scratches to the vehicle, cover the surfaces with a protective material.

With the convertible top closed and unlatched, detach the top well sling interior trim cover.







2. Disconnect the rear window defrost grid electrical connector locator from the body.

3. CAUTION: Do not attempt to disconnect the rear window defrost grid connector from the rear window glass.

Disconnect the rear window grid wire electrical connectors and route them through the well sling.

4. Remove the ground bolt for the rear window defrost grid.
5. Route the rear window defrost grid ground wire out through the hole in the well sling interior trim cover.
6. Position the well sling interior trim cover aside.
7. Remove the 2 nuts (1 on each side) and the lift cylinder bracket.

8. NOTE: The convertible top must be in the up position to remove the lift cylinder bolts.

Remove the 2 bolts (1 on each side) and position the lift cylinders aside.

9. Remove the motor noise reduction shroud.
10. Disconnect the motor electrical connector.
11. Release the hydraulic line retainers on each side.







12. NOTE: Prior to removal, mark the location of the hydraulic lines for correct installation of the motor assembly.

Pull up on the motor assembly to release the rubber retainers.

13. Remove the motor assembly and lift cylinders as an assembly.

Installation







1. Remove the fill plug at the end of the motor assembly.
2. Fill the pump with transmission fluid to the bottom of the fill hole and install the fill plug.

3. NOTE: Some noise squeal may be noticed due to the air in the system.

Connect a 12 volt power source to the motor connector and operate the motor assembly until the lift cylinders are fully extended. Reverse the 12 volt connection to fully retract the lift cylinders. Repeat this procedure 3 times.

4. Remove the fill plug and check the fluid level. Fill the pump with transmission fluid to the bottom of the fill hole.
5. Install the fill plug.







6. Install the motor assembly.







7. Engage the hydraulic line retainers on each side.







8. Connect the motor assembly electrical connector.







9. Install the motor noise reduction shroud.
10. Install the lift cylinder brackets and the 2 nuts (1 on each side).
- Tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb-in).

11. NOTE: The convertible top must be in the up position to install the lift cylinder bolts.

Install the 2 bolts (1 on each side) and position the lift cylinders aside.
- Tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-in).

12. Route the rear window defrost grid ground wire through the hole in the well sling interior trim cover.







13. Install the rear window defrost grid ground bolt.
- Tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

14. Route the rear window defrost grid wire through the hole in the well sling interior trim cover.







15. Connect the rear window defrost grid electrical connector and attach the locator to the body.







16. Attach the well sling interior trim cover.
