AIR BAG WARNING LAMP ON - DTC B1891 IN
RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE OR LAMP
FLASHES CODE 53 - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE

FORD:
2005 Mustang

ISSUE
Some 2005 Mustang vehicles built before 10/02/2004, may exhibit the air bag warning lamp on with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1891 or the lamp flashes code 53 (Air Bag Tone Warning Indicator Shorted To Voltage). The restraint system remains fully functional.

ACTION
It may be necessary to replace the instrument cluster. Refer to the following Service Procedure.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Refer to Workshop Manual Section 501-20B (Supplemental Restraint System Diagnosis And Testing) and follow pinpoint test "F".

a. If NO short to battery is found on the air bag tone warning indicator circuit, proceed to TSB Step 2. DO NOT replace the restraints control module.

b. If a short to battery is found, repair as needed and do not continue with this TSB.

2. If no short to battery was found in TSB Step 1, install new instrument cluster per Workshop Manual Section 413-01 (Removal And Installation Of Instrument Cluster). Verify that the air bag warning lamp proves out after installation of the new cluster.

NOTE
ORDER THE NEW INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PER PROCEDURES IN THE WARRANTY AND POLICY MANUAL, SECTION 3.
