Rear Seat Backrest

REAR SEAT BACKREST

Disassembly and Assembly

All vehicles
1. Lift the rear seat cushion.







2. NOTE: Make sure the safety belt webbing is not twisted prior to installation.

Detach the center rear safety belt lower anchor.

3-door and Wagon







3. NOTE: Make sure the safety belt webbing is not twisted prior to installation.

Detach both outer safety belt lower anchors.







4. NOTE: Make sure the safety belt webbing is not twisted prior to installation.

Detach the safety belt webbing from the top of the backrest.
- Feed the safety belt webbing through the elastic loops.

All vehicles







5. Remove the rear seat backrest.
6. Remove the head restraints.







7. Remove the head restraint guides.
1 Using a suitable screwdriver, depress the locking tang.
2 Lift the head restraint guide.

8. Remove the rear seat backrest carpet.







9. Detach the backrest cover retaining strip.

3-door, 5-door and wagon







10. Remove the backrest release button surround (if equipped).







11. Detach the backrest cover from the backrest release button (if equipped).







12. Detach the foam pad from the backrest release button (if equipped).







13. NOTE: Locking off the backrest latch allows the safety belt to be moved when the backrest is in its normal upright position.

Lock off the backrest latch.

All vehicles







14. NOTE: The safety belt webbing retainer is supplied with new safety belts. Do not use any other retaining method.

Install the safety belt webbing retainer.







15. Detach the center rear safety belt guide.
1 Move the safety belt webbing to access the retainers.
2 Drill out the rivets.







16. NOTE: Make sure the safety belt webbing not twisted prior to installation.

Remove the center safety belt guide.







17. NOTE: Make sure the safety belt webbing is not twisted prior to installation.

Detach the center rear safety belt webbing from the seat cover and foam pad.







18. Remove the seat cover and foam pad.

3-door and 5-door







19. Remove the seat cover from the foam pad.
- Remove the twelve hog rings.

4-door and wagon

20. NOTE: Use care when separating the seat cushion trim cover from the hook and loop fasteners to avoid tearing the fasteners off the seat foam.

Release the hook and loop strips and remove the trim cover.
