POLICE INTERCEPTOR VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH
FRONT POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX (PDB) OPTION
66F - BLUNT CUT WIRES ACCESSIBILITY - SERVICE
TIP

FORD:
2005 Crown Victoria

ISSUE
Crown Victoria Police Interceptor vehicles built before 9/21/2004, equipped with option 66F (front power distribution box (PDB)), have the blunt cut circuits routed behind the instrument panel to the left side of the glove box door. The circuits exit the instrument panel at the bottom, taped inside convolute. The convolute protrudes beneath the instrument panel approximately 1" (25 mm), making connection to police accessories difficult.

ACTION
When installing police accessories, access to the fused circuits from the PDB may be improved by rerouting the harness into the glove box area. Refer to the following Service Procedure.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

CAUTION
FOLLOW THE DEPOWERING PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN SECTION 501-20B OF THE 2005 WORKSHOP MANUAL BEFORE PERFORMING THIS PROCEDURE.

1. Remove the RH instrument panel finish panel.

a. Pull out to release the retaining clips.

b. Slide the trim panel slightly to the right, aligning the keyway.

c. Pull out, separating the trim panel from the instrument panel.

d. Disconnect the three (3) electrical connectors.

2. Remove the A/C control head by removing the four (4) screws.

3. Fully open the glove box door by pushing in on the sides when opening.

4. Looking up into the front center of the glove compartment opening, separate the passenger air bag module electrical connector and pin-type retainer from the bracket. Disconnect the passenger air bag module electrical connector.

5. Through the glove compartment opening, remove the passenger air bag module bolts.

6. Remove the passenger air bag module by placing one hand in the glove compartment opening and pushing the passenger air bag module out.

7. Reaching into the glove box, cut off the end of the locator securing the wiring takeout for the blunt cut circuits (Figure 1).

8. Reaching through the openings in the instrument panel pull/push the wiring takeout up and route into the glove box opening.

9. Remove the tape on the end of the convolute to expose the blunt cut circuits (Figure 2).

10. The removed components can be reinstalled before or after completing police accessory wiring.
