Alternator: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the air intake tube.
3. Remove the accessory drive belt.
4. Raise the vehicle.
5. Remove the front valance panel.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Remove the pin-type retainer.
6. Remove the RH radiator lower air deflector.
1 Remove the screw.
2 Remove the pin-type retainer.
7. Remove the generator nut and through bolt.
8. Remove the nut and position the generator B+ wire harness end aside.
^ Fold back the protective cover.
9. Remove the generator expanding bolt and bushing assembly.
CAUTION: The generator must be supported by hand after removing the bolts prior to disconnecting the electrical connector or damage to the harness will result.
10. Position the generator so it will rest on the mounting bolt bracket and disconnect the electrical connector.
11. Remove the generator.
^ While positioning and supporting the generator at all times, rotate the generator to gain access for removal.
CAUTION: Care must be taken when removing the generator to prevent damage to the air conditioning and cooling lines.
INSTALLATION
1. Position the generator and connect the electrical connector.
2. Install the generator and tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.
1 Loosely install the generator through bolt and nut.
2 Install the expanding bushing and bolt assembly in two stages.
^ Stage 1: Tighten the bolt to 20 Nm (15 Lb-Ft).
^ Stage 2: Tighten the bolt an additional 90 degrees.
3 Install the bolt.
^ Tighten the through bolt and the nut.
3. Position the generator B+ wire harness end and install nut.
^ Fold back the protective cover.
4. Install the RH radiator lower air deflector.
1 Install the screw.
2 Install the pin-type retainer.
5. Install the front valance panel.
1 Install the bolts.
2 Install the pin-type retainer.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Install the accessory drive belt.
8. Install the air intake tube.
9. Connect the battery cable ground cable.
