Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

CAUTION: If installing a new air conditioning compressor due to an internal failure of the old unit, you must carry out the following procedures to remove contamination from the air conditioning system.
- If A/C flushing equipment is available, carry out flushing of the air conditioning system.
- If A/C flushing equipment is not available, carry out filtering of the air conditioning system after a new air conditioning compressor has been installed.
- Install a new thermostatic expansion valve as directed by the A/C flushing or filtering procedure.
- Install a new receiver/drier as directed by the A/C flushing or filtering procedure.

1. Raise the vehicle.







2. Remove the screws and remove the sight shield.
3. If flushing of the air conditioning system has not been performed, recover the refrigerant.

CAUTION: If the refrigerant recovery equipment is attached while the vehicle is raised, be sure the recovery equipment is clear of the vehicles path when the vehicle is lowered.

NOTE: The low side A/C service port valve is located at the compressor attachment on the compressor manifold and tube assembly. It may be necessary to attach the recovery equipment low side service valve while the vehicle is raised, then lower the vehicle to attach the high side service valve.

4. Raise the vehicle if it was lowered for refrigerant recovery.







5. Remove the bolt and position aside the power steering hose.







6. Remove the bolt and position aside the compressor manifold and tube assembly.
- Discard the O-ring seals.







7. Remove the bolt.







8. Disconnect the field coil electrical connector.







9. Remove the two upper compressor bolts.
10. Remove the A/C compressor.

INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Install new O-rings lubricated in clean PAG oil.
- If filtering of the air conditioning system is not to be performed, correctly oil match the system with clean PAG oil.
2. If filtering of the refrigerant system is not to be performed, evacuate, leak-test, and charge the refrigerant system.
