External Controls Vehicles With: MTX-75/Manual Transaxle

Gearshift Cables

Removal

CAUTION: Disconnect the battery ground cable.

1. Raise the vehicle.





2. Remove the selector and shift cables from the transaxle. Remove the shift cable by twisting the abutment collar counter-clockwise.





3. Move the selector and gearshift levers on the transmission to"neutral" (both levers should be vertical).





4. Disconnect the exhaust flange and Remove it from the rubber insulators.





5. Disconnect the center exhaust hanger and the support exhaust with wire.





6. Remove the front exhaust heatshield. Unclip the shift and selector cables from the floor pan.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Remove the floor console.





9. Remove the gearshift lever cover.
1. Unclip the cover or boot.
2. Twist off the gearshift lever knob. Take out the damping sleeves and compression spring.





10. Remove the center armrest brace





11. Remove the rear footwell heating duct.





12. Remove the center console trim panel.





13. Remove the right-hand lower I/P panel.
14. Remove the lower heater case duct.





15. Remove the gearshift and selector cables from the gearshift lever.
- Remove the gearshift and selector cables by twisting the abutment collar counter clockwise.





16. Open up the carpet and damping matting and fold up to one side (heater heat exchanger not shown.)





17. Detach the shift and selector cable bushing from the floor pan and pull the cables through to the vehicle interior (heater heat exchanger not shown).

Installation





1. Install the shifter cables.





2. Install the gearshift and selector cables to the gearshift lever.





3. Close the carpet and damping matting.
4. Install the lower heater case duct.





5. Install the right-hand lower I/P panel.





6. Install the armrest brace.
7. Install the floor console.





8. Install the armrest and trim panel cover.
9. Raise the vehicle.





10. Attach the shift and selector cable bushing to the floor panel.





11. Install the front heat shield.





12. Connect the center exhaust hanger and remove the support wire.





13. Connect the exhaust flange and install it to the rubber insulators.
14. Lower the vehicle.
15. Adjust the gearshift and selector cables.





16. Install the shifter boot and knob.
17. Carry out road test to enable the powertrain control module (PCM) to collect data.
