Upper

Intake Manifold-Upper

Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the engine air cleaner outlet tube.





3. Disconnect the vacuum hose and the Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoid.





4. Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor and the Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) return tube.





5. Position the accelerator cable aside and the speed control cable aside, if equipped.





6. Remove the bolts and position the cables and bracket out of the way.





7. Disconnect the following electrical connectors:
- Differential pressure feedback EGR transducer.
- Engine Vacuum Regulator (EGR).
- Disconnect the push pins.





8. Disconnect the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) tube.





9. Disconnect the vacuum hoses.





10. Disconnect the ignition coil wiring.
- Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector.
- Disconnect the radio interference capacitor.
- Disconnect the spark plug wires.





11. Disconnect the vacuum hose.

12. NOTE: For ease in installation, record the location of the long bolts and the short bolts.





Remove the upper intake manifold.
1. Remove the 12 bolts.
2. Remove the upper intake manifold.





13. Remove and discard the upper intake manifold gasket.

Installation





1. Install a new intake manifold upper gasket.


2. NOTE: Refer to the location note made during removal and make sure the bolts are installed in the correct location.





Install the upper intake manifold. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in two stages:
- Stage 1: tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
- Stage 2: rotate an additional 90 degrees.





3. Connect the vacuum hose.





4. Connect the ignition coil wiring.
- Connect the ignition coil electrical connector.
- Connect the radio interference capacitor.
- Connect the spark plug wires.





5. Connect the vacuum hoses.





6. Connect the PCV tube.





7. Connect the following electrical connectors:
- Differential pressure feedback EGR transducer
- Engine Vacuum Regulator (EGR)
- Connect the push pins.





8. Position the accelerator cable bracket and install the bolts.





9. Connect the accelerator cable.





10. Connect the TP sensor and the EVAP return tube.





11. Connect the vacuum hose and the Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoid.
12. Install the engine air cleaner outlet tube.
13. Connect the battery~ground cable.
