Removal
1. General Notes.
^ The location of the engine mountings and the engine support insulators are given looking from the automatic transaxle towards to the engine.
^ Operations for particular variants which do not apply to all vehicles are marked clearly with a note.
^ If necessary cut the cable ties and fit new ones when reinstalling the assembly.
2. Remove the battery tray.
3. Remove the air cleaner housing.
1. Disconnect the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.
2. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose.
3. Disconnect the intake hose.
^ Pull out the air cleaner housing from the rubber bushes.
4. NOTE: The resonator is plugged into the bracket.
Remove the air cleaner intake pipe with resonator.
5. NOTE: Using an Allen key to prevent the piston rod turning.
Loosen the nuts on both suspension struts five turns.
6. Remove the intake tube.
7. Disconnect the Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) sensor electrical connector.
8. Disconnect the electrical connectors and the selector lever cable from the automatic transaxle selector lever assembly.

9. Remove the upper starter motor bolts.
10. Using the special tools, secure the engine.
11. Remove the fluid pipe/selector lever cable bracket.
12. Loosen the left-hand front wheel nuts.
13. Raise and support the vehicle.
14. Remove the left-hand front wheel.
15. Remove the exhaust pipe and exhaust pipe bracket.
16. If necessary disconnect the starter motor electrical connectors (two nuts).
17. If necessary remove the lower starter motor bolt.
18. Remove the right-hand engine support insulator.
l. Remove the bolt and the nut.
2. Remove the bolt.
19. Remove the left-hand and right-hand tie-rod nut.
20. CAUTION: Protect the ball joint seal using a soft cloth to prevent damage.
Using the special tool detach the tie-rod ball joint.
21. Detach both suspension arms (left-hand side shown).
22. Remove the mounting bracket from right-hand front drive halfshaft intermediate bearing.
23. CAUTION: The inner joint must not be bend more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent more than 45 degrees.
Remove the right-hand front drive halfshaft from the transaxle and tie it up.
24. CAUTION: The inner joint must not be bend more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent at more than 45 degrees.
Remove the left-hand front drive halfshaft from the transaxle.
^ Using the special tool detach the halfshaft from the transaxle.
^ Pull out the halfshaft from the transaxle using cable ties tie it up.
^ Using a plug close off the transaxle opening.
25. Disconnect the Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor electrical connector.
26. CAUTION: Hold the case fittings while loosening the fluid cooler line fittings to prevent the cooler lines from becoming damaged.
NOTE: Mark the location.
Detach the fluid cooler lines from the transaxle.
27. Remove the torque converter cover bolts.
28. Disconnect the torque converter from the engine drive plate (four nuts).
29. NOTE: The location of the different length bolts for installation.
Remove the upper flange bolts.
30. Remove the rear engine mounting.
31. Using special tool 303-290 lower the engine and transaxle assembly slightly.
32. Remove the rear engine mounting bracket.
33. Remove the fluid filler pipe.
^ Remove the screw and pull off the pipe.
34. NOTE: The location of the different length bolts for installation.
Remove the left-hand flange bolts.
35. Secure transaxle with retaining strap using transmission jack and support
36. NOTE: The location of the different length bolts for installation.
Remove the right-hand flange bolt.
37. Separate the automatic transaxle from the engine and lower the transaxle.
38. Using the special tool avoid damage to the torque converter.
