Front Seat Backrest

DISASSEMBLY

All Vehicles
1. Remove the front seat backrest.

WARNING: WAIT AT LEAST ONE MINUTE AFTER DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE BEFORE DISCONNECTING ANY SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS WARNING COULD CAUSE PREMATURE DEPLOYMENT AND MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.







2. Remove the head restraint.
1. Depress the clips.
2. Lift the head restraint.







3. Detach the plastic retaining strip at the base of the backrest.







4. Detach the front of the seat cover from the base of the backrest foam pad.
^ Cut the six hog rings.
5. Remove the lumbar adjuster (if equipped).

6. Remove the backrest release lever.
^ Remove the screw.

All Vehicles







7. Roll the seat cover up the seat backrest to access the lower lateral tension rods.







8. Detach the lower edge of the left and right-hand lateral tension rods.
9. Roll the cover down the backrest.







10. Detach the upper left and right-hand lateral tension rods.







11. Roll the seat cover up the backrest frame to access the upper spring frame.







12. Cut the three hog rings attaching the seat cover to the upper edge of the spring frame assembly.

Vehicles with side airbag







13. Remove the side air bag module deployment sleeve retainer.
^ Remove the black plastic production rivet and discard.

WARNING: DO NOT RE-USE THE PLASTIC RETAINING RIVET. ALWAYS USE THE NEW RIVET FROM THE SERVICE KIT. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS WARNING COULD IMPAIR THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.







14. Slide apart the plastic retaining strips securing the side air bag deployment sleeve.

WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SEPARATE THE PLASTIC RETAINING STRIPS IN ANY OTHER WAY THAN THAT DETAILED. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS WARNING COULD IMPAIR THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.

15. Remove the head restraint guide tubes.
^ Using a suitable screwdriver, release the locking tangs.







16. Detach the seat cover from the underside of the top of the seat frame.
1. Detach the plastic retaining strip.
2. Remove the seat cover.







17. Remove the left and right-hand lateral tension rods from the seat cover if a new seat cover is to be used.







18. Remove the seat backrest foam pad.







19. Remove the anti-squeak mat.

CAUTION: Make sure the exact position of the anti-squeak mat on the seat frame is noted.

Vehicles with side airbag
20. Remove the side air bag module.

ASSEMBLY

Vehicles with side airbag
1. Install the side air bag module.

All Vehicles







2. Assemble the anti-squeak mat onto the seat backrest frame.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THE ANTI-SQUEAK MAT IS CORRECTLY PLACED ONTO THE SEAT FRAME. DO NOT COVER THE SIDE AIR BAG MODULE. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS WARNING WILL IMPAIR AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.







3. Assemble the seat backrest foam pad onto the backrest frame.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THE SEAT BACKREST FOAM IS CORRECTLY PLACED AROUND THE SIDE AIR BAG MODULE. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS WARNING COULD IMPAIR AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.







4. Attach the seat cover retaining strip to the underside of the top of the seat frame.
1. Position the seat cover on to the seat frame.
2. Attach the plastic retaining strip.

5. Attach the plastic retaining strip to secure the side air bag deployment sleeve.







6. Attach the side air bag module deployment sleeve.
^ Assemble the colored plastic rivet into the plastic retaining strip attaching the side air bag module deployment sleeve.

WARNING: DO NOT RE-USE THE PLASTIC RETAINING RIVET. ALWAYS USE THE NEW RIVET FROM THE SERVICE KIT. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS WARNING COULD IMPAIR THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.

7. Install the three hog rings attaching the seat cover to the upper edge of the spring frame assembly.







8. Roll the seat cover down the seat backrest frame to the upper spring frame assembly.







9. Attach the upper ends of the left and right-hand lateral tension rods.
10. Roll the seat cover along the backrest.







11. Attach the lower ends of the left and right-hand lateral tension rods.







12. Roll the seat cover down the seat backrest.

3-door







13. Install the backrest release lever.


All Vehicles
14. Install the lumbar adjuster (if equipped).







15. Attach the front of the seat cover to the base of the foam pad.
^ Install six hog rings.







16. Attach the plastic retaining strip at the base of the backrest.







17. Install the head restraint guide tubes.







18. Install the bead restraint.
^ Depress the clips.
19. Install the front seat backrest.
