Inspection and Verification

1. Verify the customer concern by checking the air bag indicator in the instrument cluster. For additional information, refer to Prove Out the System. Prove Out Procedure
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.
3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

Mechanical
^ Restraints Control Module (RCM) bracket
^ Pretensioner bracket
^ Side Crash Sensor (SCS) bracket

Electrical
^ Battery Junction Box (BJB) Fuse:
- 7 (40 A)
- 8 (30 A)
^ Central Junction Box (CJB) Fuse:
- 36 (7.5 A)
- 58 (7.5 A)
- 59 (7.5 A)
- 60 (7.5 A)
^ Wiring harness
^ Loose or corroded connector(s)
^ Circuit open/shorted
^ Shorting bars

4. Using the scan tool, retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and carry out the on-demand self-test. On-Demand Self Test
5. If the on-demand self-test is passed and no DTCs are retrieved, proceed to the Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
6. If DTCs are retrieved, proceed to the RCM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index. Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures
