Catalytic Converter: Description and Operation

The catalytic converter resembles a small muffler. Owing to the high temperatures at which the catalytic converter operates, the vehicle body areas around the catalytic converters are protected by heat shields, The catalytic converter controls three emissions; Hydrocarbons (HC), Carbon Monoxide (CO) and oxides of Nitrogen (NOx).
