Timing Cover: Service and Repair
Removal1. Remove the nuts and position the Radio Ignition Interference (RFI) capacitors out of the way.
2. Remove the valve covers.
3. Remove the cooling fan.
4. Remove bolts (1) and the water pump pulley (2).
5. Position the A/C muffler out of the way.
6. Raise and support the vehicle.
7. Position the power steering pump aside.
8. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor.
9. Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil.
10. Remove the battery cable support nuts.
11. Remove the crankshaft front oil seal.
12. Remove the front oil pan bolts.
13. Lower the vehicle.
14. Remove the power steering reservoir.
15. Disconnect the camshaft position sensor.
16. Remove the belt idler pulley.
17. Remove the engine front cover bolts and the studs.
- Discard the gaskets, clean and inspect the sealing surfaces.
Installation
1. Apply silicone sealant in the locations shown.

2. Use Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M2G323-A4.
3. Install the belt idler pulley.
4. Connect the camshaft position sensor.
5. Raise the vehicle.
6. Install the crankshaft front oil seal.
7. Tighten the four oil pan bolts in the sequence shown.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 3: Tighten an additional 60°.
8. Install the drain plug.
9. Connect the crankshaft position sensor.
10. Position the A/C muffler and tighten the nut.
11. Install the power steering pump.
12. Position the battery support cables and install the two nuts.
13. Install the crankshaft pulley.
14. Install the water pump pulley.
15. Install the cooling fan.
16. Install the valve covers.
17. Fill the crankcase with clean engine oil.
- Use Super Premium SAE SW-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.
