Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Description and Operation

The T45 is a five-speed manual transmission containing the following features.
^ Fifth speed gear functions as an overdrive gear.
^ First through fourth gears are meshed within the case.
^ Reverse gear, fifth speed gear and the synchronizer are located on the rear of the case in the extension housing.
^ The fifth/reverse gear shift rail is mounted in the case.
^ Fifth speed and reverse are shifted through a reverse gearshift lever and activated by the fifth/reverse gear shift rail shift rail.
^ A shift interlock system, located in the case, prevents the engagement of more than one gear.
^ The shift detent, located in the extension housing turrent, consists of a detent plate, gearshift offset lever, shifter interlock spring, and detent ball.
^ All forward gears are synchronized and helical cut.
^ Reverse gear operates through a constant-mesh, double-disconnect system.
^ The floor-mounted gearshift lever operates the main shift rail which extends from the extension housing into the case.
