Timing Cover: Service and Repair
Removal1. Remove the right-hand valve cover.
2 Remove the left-hand valve cover.
3. Remove the oil pan;
4. Remove the generator.
5. Remove the power steering pump.
6. Disconnect the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.
1 Detach the wiring harness retainer.
2 Disconnect the CMP electrical connector.
7. Disconnect the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
1 Detach the wiring harness retainer.
2 Disconnect the CKP electrical connector.
8. Remove the sensors.
1 Remove the bolt and the CKP sensor.
2 Remove the bolt and the CMP sensor.
- Discard the O-ring seals.
9. NOTE: Remove the bolts and studs in the indicated sequence.
Remove the engine front cover and discard the gaskets.
Installation
1. Prior to applying sealer clean the front cover to cylinder block and cylinder head sealing surfaces with Metal surface cleaner.
2. NOTE: Install the engine from cover within four minutes after applying the sealant.
Apply a 6 mm dot of sealant to the indicated locations.
- Use Silicone gasket and sealant.
3. NOTE: The engine front cover must be installed in a two step sequence.
NOTE: Locating dowels and the locations of the studs.
Install the front engine cover.
- Install new gaskets in the engine front cover.
- Install the bolts and studs in the indicated sequence and tighten in two steps.
- First tighten the seven bolts and studs one quarter turn (90 degrees) after engine front cover contacts cylinder block and cylinder heads.
4. NOTE: Tighten the bolts and studs in the indicated sequence.
Install the remaining bolts and studs.
5. NOTE: Lubricate the new O-ring seals with light engine oil before installation.
Install the CMP and CKP sensor.
6. Install the power steering pump.
7. Install the generator.
8. Install the oil pan.
9. Install the right-hand valve cover.
10. Install the left-hand valve cover.
