Crankshaft: Description and Operation

The crankshaft is:
- supported on the bottom of the cylinder block by five steel-backed, aluminum-plated crankshaft main bearings.
- limited in end play by the crankshaft thrust washers.
- connected to the LH intake and the RH exhaust camshafts by a single timing chain / belt which provides a 2:1 drive ratio.
