Crankshaft Main Bearing

Desired: 0.025-0.035 mm (0.001-0.0014 inch)
Allowable: 0.013-0.058 mm (0.0005-0.0023 inch)
Bearing Wall Thickness: 2.435-2.451 mm (0.0959-0.0965 inch)

NOTE: Follow the proper tightening procedure for the bearing cap removed. Lubricate bearing surfaces with Engine Assembly Lubricant D9AZ-19579-D or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M99C80-A.

No. 1, No. 2 or No. 4 (Rear) crankshaft main bearing:
Tighten retaining bolts in sequence, in two steps:
Step 1: Tighten to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
Step 2: Rotate an additional 115-125°.

No. 3 (thrust bearing) crankshaft main bearing:
A. Lubricate bearing surface with Engine Assembly Lubricant and install crankshaft main bearing cap with bolt and finger-tighten.
B. Pry crankshaft forward against thrust surface on upper crankshaft thrust main bearing, while holding bearing cap to the rear. This aligns thrust rear surfaces on both halves of the crankshaft thrust main bearing.
C. While holding crankshaft forward tighten crankshaft main bearing cap retaining bolts in two steps
(1) Tighten to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
(2) Rotate an additional 115-125°.
