Headlamp Bulb: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Push headlamp switch to OFF position.
WARNING: THE REPLACEABLE HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB CONTAINS GAS UNDER PRESSURE. THE HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB MAY SHATTER IF THE GLASS ENVELOPE IS SCRATCHED OR THE HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB IS DROPPED. HANDLE HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB CAREFULLY. GRASP HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB ONLY BY ITS PLASTIC BASE. AVOID TOUCHING GLASS ENVELOPE. KEEP HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
NOTE: A correctly aimed headlamp normally need not be re-aimed after installation of this headlamp bulb. A burned out headlamp bulb should not be removed from the headlamp until just before a replacement headlamp bulb is to be installed. Removal of a headlamp bulb for an extended period of time may allow contaminants (dust, moisture, smoke) to enter the headlamp and affect its performance. When servicing the headlamp bulb, energize the headlamp bulb only while it is contained within the headlamp body.
2. Locate headlamp bulb and retainer installed in rear of headlamp housing and remove headlamp dash panel junction wire from headlamp bulb and retainer by grasping wires firmly and snapping connector rearward.
3. Remove headlamp bulb retainer by rotating counterclockwise (when viewed from rear) about one-eighth turn and sliding headlamp bulb out of headlamp housing. Keep headlamp bulb retainer as it may be used again to retain new headlamp bulb.
4. Carefully remove headlamp bulb from retainer by gently pulling straight out of retainer. Do not rotate headlamp bulb during removal.
INSTALLATION
1. With flat side of retainer facing upward, insert glass envelope of headlamp bulb into retainer. Turn headlamp bulb and retainer slightly to left or right, if necessary, to align grooves in forward part of headlamp housing with corresponding locating tabs inside socket. When grooves are aligned, push headlamp bulb and retainer into headlamp housing until mounting flange on headlamp bulb and retainer contacts rear face of headlamp housing.
2. Slip headlamp bulb retainer over rear of headlamp bulb and retainer against mounting flange. Lock headlamp bulb retainer into socket by rotating it clockwise. A stop will be felt when headlamp bulb retainer is fully engaged.
3. Push electrical connector on headlamp dash panel junction wire into rear of headlamp bulb and retainer until it snaps and locks into position.
4. Turn head lamps on and check for proper operation.
