Compressor

When A/C compressor is inoperative due to internal causes, clean the refrigerant system by flushing or filtering to remove any debris or contaminants and prevent damage to the replacement A/C compressor.

Replacement of the suction accumulator/drier is necessary when the A/C compressor is replaced.

The A/C evaporator core orifice should be replaced whenever the A/C compressor is replaced for lack of performance or when there is debris in the system.

REMOVAL







1. Discharge the system following the recommended service procedures. Observe all safety precautions. Discharging and Recovery
2. Unfasten two latches on engine air tray to Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF sensor).
3. Disconnect wire harness from mass air flow sensor and Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IAT sensor).
4. Loosen engine air cleaner tube clamp and remove mass air flow sensor and air cleaner outlet tube.
5. Remove the drive belt.







6. Remove the A/C manifold and tube retaining bolt and remove the A/C manifold and tube from the A/C compressor. Cap the refrigerant lines and compressor manifolds to prevent the entrance of dirt and moisture.
7. Disconnect the A/C clutch wires at the A/C clutch field coil connector.
8. Remove compressor retaining bolts.
9. Remove the FS-10 A/C compressor from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. Service the replacement A/C compressor with the correct amount of clean Motorcraft YN-12b refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
2. Install A/C compressor and retaining bolts. Tighten compressor retaining bolts to 20-30 N.m (15-22 Lb-Ft).
3. Lubricate new O-ring seals with clean Motorcraft YN-12b refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B and position them in O-ring seal grooves of A/C manifold and tube.
4. Apply Pipe Sealant with Teflon(R) D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specifications WSK-M2G350-A2 and ESR-M18P7-A to threads of manifold retaining bolt.

NOTE: When replacing A/C compressor, use original manifold bolt from removed A/C compressor to retain A/C manifold and tube to new A/C compressor. Do not use the shipping bolts.

5. Position A/C manifold and tube with O-ring seals to A/C compressor. Install retaining bolt and tighten to 17-23 N-m (13-16 Lb-Ft).
6. Connect the A/C clutch wires to the A/C compressor clutch field coil connector.
7. Install the drive belt.
8. Install mass air flow sensor and air cleaner outlet tube to engine air tray. Align tab on mass air flow sensor with slot on engine air tray.
9. Connect wire harness to mass air flow sensor and intake air temperature sensor. Tighten engine air cleaner tube clamp to 2.3-3.2 N.m (21-28 Lb-In).
10. Following proper procedures, leak-test, evacuate and charge the system. Observe all safety precautions. Evacuation
11. Check the system for proper operation.
