Valve Cover: Service and Repair


REMOVAL
1. Disconnect ignition wires from spark plugs.
2. Remove ignition wire routing clips from valve cover retaining bolt studs.
3. If LH valve cover is being removed, proceed with the following steps:
a. Remove oil filler cap.
b. Remove crankcase ventilation hose.
4. If RH valve cover is being removed, remove Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve (PCV valve).
5. Remove valve cover retaining screws, valve cover and valve cover gasket.

INSTALLATION





1. Position and install a new valve cover gasket into valve cover.

NOTE: Lightly oil bolt and stud threads before installation with Super Premium SAE 5W30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G. Using solvent, clean cylinder head and valve cover sealing surfaces to remove all gasket material and dirt.

2. Position valve cover on the cylinder head and install retaining bolts. Note location of ignition wire routing clip stud bolts. Tighten retaining bolts to 8-12 Nm (71-106 in. lbs.).
3. If LH valve cover is being installed, proceed with the following steps:
a. Install oil filler cap.
b. Install crankcase ventilation tube.
4. If RH valve cover is being installed, install positive crankcase ventilation valve.
5. Install ignition wire routing clips.
6. Connect ignition wires to spark plugs.
7. Start engine and check for oil leaks.
