Crankshaft: Description and Operation
The crankshaft:
- is supported on the bottom of the cylinder block by three steel-backed, over-plated copper-lead crankshaft main bearings.
- is connected to the camshaft by sprockets and a timing chain/belt with timing chain vibration damper which provide a 2:1 drive ratio.
Piston crankpins are positioned to provide a power impulse every 120 degrees of crankshaft rotation, providing smooth engine operation.
