Removal and Installation

FRONT SEAT BACK LATCH
If the front seat back latch does not pass the sensitivity test as described below, the entire front seat back latch assembly must be replaced. Service of the front seat back latch components is not acceptable, and should not be attempted.

Any time a front seat assembly equipped with front seat back latch is serviced, the front seat back latch must be tested for proper operation as follows:
1. Remove seat.
2. With seat and track assembly removed from vehicle and positioned on a flat surface, grasp only the seat cushion, and slowly tilt the seat assembly forward enough to cause the seat back to tilt forward by gravity.
3. The front seat back latch should engage at this point (11 degrees from original position), restricting the seat back from tilting to its full forward position.
4. If front seat back latch does not operate, replace front seat back latch assembly.

REMOVAL
1. Remove front seat.
2. Disengage front seat back cover to gain access to front seat back latch upper cover.
3. Remove two screws retaining front seat back latch upper cover to front seat back frame.

4. Remove two bolts retaining front seat back latch to front seat back frame.
5. Remove two screws retaining front seat back latch lower cover to front seat cushion frame and spring.
6. Remove two bolts retaining front seat back latch to front seat cushion frame and spring and remove front seat back latch.

INSTALLATION
1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order.

NOTE: After latch assembly replacement, the seat assembly must be checked for proper operation prior to installing the seat assembly.

2. Tighten latch-to-front seat back frame bolts to 22-32 Nm (17-23 lb-ft).
3. Tighten front seat back latch to front seat cushion frame and spring bolts to 47-63 Nm (35-46 lb-ft).
4. Check seat tracks, recliner and safety belts for proper operation.
