Folding Top Side Rail

REMOVAL
1. Remove rear seat cushion pad and frame and rear seat back pad and frame.
2. Remove appropriate side quarter trim panel.
3. With top up, remove the front safety belt retractor bracket from the folding top main pivot bracket and the quarter inner panel.
4. Remove radio speaker mounting plate.
5. Move the folding top half way down. Remove the 13 screws retaining seal compression panel and remove seal compression panel.
6. Remove the front, center and rear rail seals.
7. Remove the front, center and rear rail seal retainers (three screws per retainer).
8. Mark the front edge of vinyl, where it wraps around the number one bow, with chalk.
9. Remove staples attaching vinyl to number one bow. Start at outboard edge and remove staples one third of the way across bow.
10. Position folding top in full up position and leave it unlatched.
11. Remove nut retaining hydraulic cylinder bracket. Remove shoulder retaining hydraulic cylinder and remove hydraulic cylinder.
12. Remove the three screws retaining headliner: one at the front of front rail, one at the back of center rail and one retaining balance link.
13. Remove the three push pins retaining headliner to rear rail.
14. Remove the vinyl top cover flap from rear rail. Flap is retained with two-sided tape and can be peeled back from rear rail.
15. Disconnect side tension cable from the rear rail by bending the tab up and slipping end of spring off rail. Slip cable and spring out through cable guide on the rear rail.
16. Disconnect the number two and number three bows from side rail assembly (two screws each).
17. Mark two lines on number four bow to mark centerlines of retaining screws. Remove two screws attaching number four bow to the side rail assembly.
18. Remove three screws attaching number one bow to front of front rail and its bracket.
19. Loosen bottom screw and remove top screw attaching folding top balance link adjusting support to the main pivot bracket.
20. Remove two forward screws, loosen rearward screw retaining main pivot bracket to the quarter inner panel and remove side rail.

INSTALLATION
1. Position the folding top in the down position. Position side rail, install two forward retaining screws and tighten rearward screw retaining main pivot bracket to quarter inner panel.
2. Install top screw and tighten bottom screw retaining folding top balance link adjusting support to the main pivot bracket.
3. Position top in the full up position and leave it unlatched.
4. Line up chalk marks with the screw locations. Install the three screws (apply Thread lock and Sealer EOAZ-19554-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G3 15-As (Type II) to the Torx(r) headed screw) retaining the number one bow to the front of front rail and bracket.
5. Line up chalk marks with the screw locations and install the two screws retaining the number four bow to the side rail assembly.
6. Insert the side tension cable and spring into the cable guide on rear rail. Bend tab down far enough so spring cannot become disengaged.
7. Install vinyl top cover flap using two-sided tape.
8. Install three push pins retaining headliner to rear rail.
9. Install three retaining screws retaining headliner to front, center and balance link.
10. Install hydraulic cylinder.
11. Position the folding top half-way down.
12. Line up chalk marks with the front edge (starting at the number one bow) and staple into place using 3/8 inch wide by 3/16 inch long staples.
13. Install front, side and rear rail seal retainers.
14. Install front, side and rear rail seal.
15. Install seal compression panel.
16. Position the top in the full up position and install radio speaker mounting plate.
17. Install the front safety belt retractor bracket to the folding top main pivot bracket and the quarter inner panel.
18. Install quarter trim panel.
19. Install rear seat cushion and back.
20. Cycle top to full up and down positions and check operation.
