Removal and Installation
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
NOTE: Removal and installation of the instrument panel is best accomplished by two people.
2. Remove two screws retaining instrument panel steering column cover. Remove instrument panel steering column cover.
3. Remove two screws retaining instrument panel reinforcement. Remove instrument panel reinforcement.
4. Remove two screws retaining lower instrument panel reinforcement. Remove lower instrument panel reinforcement.
5. Remove console panel.
6. Remove instrument cluster finish panel.
7. Remove ignition switch lock cylinder and tilt column lever.
8. Remove four screws retaining upper and lower steering column shrouds and steering column switches. Disconnect wiring from ignition switch and shift lock actuator.
9. Remove two screws and remove multi-function switch.
10. Install lock cylinder and lock steering column.
11. Remove RH and LH side cowl side trim panel.
12. Disconnect wiring at RH and LH cowl sides.
13. Remove four nuts retaining steering column to instrument panel reinforcement. Disconnect wiring connectors, move multi-function switch aside and lower steering column to floor.
14. Remove two screws from ignition/shifter interlock cable if equipped with automatic transmission.
15. Remove pinch bolt and remove steering column tube from vehicle.
16. Disconnect wire harness connectors from air bag diagnostic monitor.
17. Open glove compartment door fully and disconnect antenna lead cable, A/C or heater wiring connectors and vacuum harness.
18. Pull back front door opening weatherstrip from door openings.
19. Remove four screws retaining instrument panel to floor bracket.
20. Remove instrument panel cowl side retaining bolts and nut (two screws on RH side, one screw and one nut on LH side).
21. Remove instrument panel upper finish panel.
22. Remove three screws retaining instrument panel to upper cowl panel.
23. Pull instrument panel away from cowl and disconnect control cable from A/C evaporator housing.
24. Remove instrument panel
INSTALLATION
1. Position instrument panel in vehicle.
NOTE: Removal and installation of the instrument panel is best accomplished by two people.
2. Connect control cable to A/C evaporator housing.
3. Install four screws retaining instrument panel to floor bracket. Tighten to 8-10 Nm (71-88 lb-in).
4. Install three screws retaining instrument panel to cowl. Tighten to 8-10 Nm (71-88 lb-in).
5. Install two screws retaining instrument panel to the RH cowl side. Tighten to 8-10 Nm (71-88 lb-in).
6. Install one screw and one nut retaining instrument panel to the LH cowl side. Tighten screw to 8-10 Nm (71-88 lb-in). Tighten nut to 40-56 Nm (30-41 lb-ft).
7. Install front door opening weatherstrips to door openings.
8. Working through glove compartment opening, connect radio antenna lead cable, A/C or heater electrical connectors and vacuum harness.
9. Connect electrical connectors to air bag diagnostic monitor. Install floor carpet.
10. Install instrument panel upper finish panel.
11. Connect electrical connectors at RH and LH cowl sides.
12. Install RH and LH cowl side trim panels.
13. Place steering column through dash panel aligning steering shaft tube boot with studs.
14. Under instrument panel, install ignition/shifter interlock cable and tighten retaining screws to 1.5-2.0 Nm (14-17 lb-in) (automatic transmission only). Align the four studs on steering column with the mounting holes on the steering column collar. Install nuts and tighten to 13-17 Nm (10-12 lb-ft).
15. Connect the ignition switch and ignition key warning switch connector wire. Tighten electrical connector screw for ignition switch to 1.6-2.2 Nm (15-19 lb-in).
16. Engage steering gear input shaft coupling and steering column. Install pinch bolt and tighten to 40-55 Nm (30-40 lb-ft).
17. Install the two nuts retaining steering column tube to the dash panel. Tighten to 8-10 Nm (71-88 lb-in).
18. Install ignition switch lock cylinder.
19. Install multi-function switch.
20. Install upper and lower steering column shrouds with four screws.
21. Install instrument cluster finish panel.
22. Install console panel.
23. Install lower instrument panel reinforcement. Tighten retaining screws to 8-10 Nm (71-88 lb-in).
24. Install instrument panel reinforcement. Tighten retaining screws to 8-10 Nm (71-88 lb-in).
25. Install instrument panel steering column cover. Tighten retaining screws to 8-10 Nm (71-88 lb-in).
26. Connect battery ground cable.
27. Check all gauges and instrument panel controls for proper operation.
