Disassembly and Assembly
DISASSEMBLY1. Remove glove compartment.
2. Remove two retaining screws from LH and RH A/C register.
3. Pull A/C registers out of instrument panel opening.
4. Remove two screws retaining the RH A/C evaporator register duct to the top of the instrument panel reinforcement and remove RH A/C evaporator register duct from the instrument panel.
5. Remove two fore-aft air bag bolts retaining the passenger side air bag module to the instrument panel reinforcement.
6. Disconnect air bag electrical connector on LH lower rear corner of passenger side air bag module.
7. Remove air bag connector from steel reinforcement by prying fastener out of hole in steel reinforcement.
8. Pull each corner of air bag cover to disengage cover-to-instrument panel attachments.
9. Remove passenger side air bag module by pushing on passenger side air bag module from inside the instrument panel opening in order to pull passenger side air bag module out completely with both hands. Do not handle passenger side air bag module by grabbing edges of deployment doors.
WARNING: PLACE AIR BAG MODULE ON BENCH WITH TRIM COVER FACING UP TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND PERSONAL INJURY.
10. Remove instrument cluster finish panel.
11. Remove four retaining screws from instrument cluster.
12. Pull the instrument cluster away from the instrument panel. Disconnect the two cluster printed circuit connectors from the instrument cluster.
13. Remove the center instrument panel finish panel.
14. Remove four screws retaining A/C control to instrument panel.
15. Pull A/C control out of opening in console.
16. Disconnect electrical connectors and remove A/C control from instrument panel with A/C temperature cable and vacuum hose harness attached.
17. Remove one screw retaining windshield defroster hose nozzle to heater air plenum chamber.
18. Disconnect A/C side window demister and hose from each end of windshield defroster hose nozzle. Remove three screws which retain windshield defroster hose nozzle to instrument panel. Remove windshield defroster hose nozzle
19. Remove one screw retaining heater air plenum chamber to instrument panel reinforcement.
20. Remove two screws retaining heater air plenum chamber to instrument panel. Remove heater air plenum chamber from instrument panel.
21. Remove two retaining screws from each A/C side window demister and hose. Remove the A/C side window demister and hose.
22. Remove two screws retaining the LH A/C evaporator register duct to the instrument panel reinforcement and remove from instrument panel.
23. Disconnect wire harness from all locators, straps and/or clips as necessary, including ground wire eyelets. Remove harness from instrument panel.
24. Remove screws retaining instrument panel reinforcement to instrument panel.
25. Separate instrument panel reinforcement from instrument panel.
ASSEMBLY
1. Install instrument panel reinforcement to instrument panel -
2. Install instrument panel wiring harness and secure to instrument panel reinforcement with all locators, straps and/or clips including ground wire eyelets.
3. Install A/C evaporator register ducts, A/C side window demister and hoses, heater air plenum chamber and windshield defroster hose nozzle by reversing Disassembly procedure.
4. Install A/C controls into instrument panel with A/C temperature cable and vacuum hose harness attached. Secure with four screws tightened to 2.1-2.9 Nm (19-27 lb-in).
5. Install the center instrument panel finish panel.
6. Connect the two cluster connectors to the instrument cluster back plate.
7. Push main wiring harness up towards top of instrument cluster to avoid interference with warning tight bulbs and tripometer/odometer stepper motor.
8. Position the instrument cluster to the instrument panel. Install the four retaining screws. Tighten to 2.3-3.4 Nm (21-30 lb-in).
9. Install instrument cluster finish panel by reversing Disassembly procedure.
10. Position passenger side air bag module in instrument panel opening and slide into position.
11. Push fastener into its hole in the instrument panel steel reinforcement.
12. Attach two fore-aft air bag retaining bolts to the instrument panel reinforcement. Tighten to 7-11 Nm (62-97 lb-in).
13. Connect the air bag connector.
14. Push each air bag cover corner to engage cover-to-instrument panel attachments.
15. Install RH A/C evaporator register duct, RH and LH A/C registers and glove compartment by reversing the Disassembly procedure.
