Shift Fork: Service and Repair

DISASSEMBLY





1. Remove gear shifter forks and gear shift plates from shift rail by rotating gear shifter fork relative to shift interlock sleeve and sliding off shift rail.





2. Using screwdriver, carefully remove gear shift fork insert.





3. Remove gear selector interlock sleeve from shift rail.





4. Using 5 mm (3/16-inch) punch, remove split pin from selector body. Slide selector body off shift rail.

ASSEMBLY





1. CAUTION: Support shift rail with block of wood as shown to prevent possible damage to parts.

NOTE: Split-pin hole in shift interlock must be toward long end of shift rail. Slide interlock onto shift rail aligning split-pin hole with middle hole in shift rail.

Install split-pin as shown.





2. NOTE: Install with double-cut collar on top as shown.

Install gear selector interlock sleeve onto selector body as shown.





3. If removed, snap gear shift fork inserts onto gear shifter fork as shown.





4. NOTE: 1-2 gear shifter fork is the larger of the two single gear shifter forks.

With locating tab on outside of 1-2 gear shifter fork facing you, insert gear shift plate from right into gear shifter fork as shown.





5. NOTE: 3-4 gear shifter fork is smaller than 1-2 gear shifter fork.

With ridge toward left, install gear shift plate from left into 3-4 gear shifter fork.





6. Align gear shift plate with slot on gear selector interlock sleeve as shown. Slide 1-2 gear shifter fork onto shift rail from long end index as shown.





7. NOTE: With gear shifter forks facing downward, 1-2 gear shift selector arm plate must be below 3-4 gear shift selector arm plate.

Install 3-4 gear shifter fork onto shift rail from short end as shown.
