Removal
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.2. Remove hood.
3. Drain engine cooling system.
4. Recover air conditioning system.
5. Remove the fan motor and radiator.
6. Relieve fuel system pressure and disconnect fuel lines.
7. Remove windshield wiper governor and support bracket.
8. Remove air cleaner outlet tube.
9. Disconnect 42-pin connector and eight-pin transmission harness connector and move out of the way.
10. Remove transmission harness from retaining bracket on the rear of LH cylinder head.
11. Disconnect accelerator cable and speed control actuator cable with a screwdriver or similar tool.
12. Disconnect positive battery cable from power distribution box and harness.
13. Disconnect vacuum supply hose from throttle body adapter vacuum port.
14. Disconnect heater supply and return hoses.
15. Disconnect generator harness from front fender apron and power distribution box.
A/C Compressor Lines Removal:
16. Disconnect air conditioning compressor inlet and outlet hoses from A/C compressor using Spring Lock Coupling Disconnect Tool 412-026 (3/8 inch) and 412-027 (1/2 inch).
17. Remove retaining nut from engine front cover stud bolt and position A/C inlet and outlet hoses aside.
18. Disconnect body ground strap from dash panel.
19. Raise vehicle on a hoist.
20. Drain engine oil.
21. Disconnect three way catalytic converter (TWC) from RH and LH exhaust manifold and support with wire on crossmember in positions shown.
22. Remove retaining nut from transmission line bracket and remove three bolts and stud retaining engine to transmission case to cylinder block front bracket.
23. Remove starter motor.
24. Disconnect fuel charging wiring from power steering pump.
25. Remove four bolts retaining power steering pump to cylinder block and move out of the way.
26. Remove transmission housing cover from cylinder block to access torque converter retaining nuts. Rotate crankshaft until each nut (four required) is accessible and remove nuts.
27. Remove six bolts retaining transmission to engine.
28. Remove engine insulator through-bolts.
NOTE: Two through-bolts are required on LH front engine support insulator and one through-bolt is required on RH front engine support insulator.
29. Lower vehicle.
30. Support transmission with Rotunda 1-1/2 Ton Floor Jack or equivalent.
31. Remove bolt retaining RH front engine support insulator to front sub-frame.
32. Install Lifting Bracket Set 303-D074 or equivalent on side of LH cylinder head at front as shown. Attach Engine Lifting Bracket Set or equivalent using two M- 12 x 1.75 x 20 mm bolts. Install Engine Lifting Bracket Set 303-D074 or equivalent on side of RH cylinder head at rear.
33. Connect Rotunda Floor Crane to the Engine Lifting Bracket Set.
34. Raise engine slightly and carefully separate engine from transmission.
35. Carefully lift engine out of engine compartment.
36. Position engine on a work stand.
37. Remove engine-lifting equipment.
