Removal
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.2. Drain engine cooling system and remove the fan motor.
3. Remove air cleaner outlet tube.
4. Relieve fuel system pressure and disconnect fuel lines.
5. Remove windshield wiper governor.
6. Release drive belt tensioner and remove drive belt
7. Raise vehicle on a hoist.
Gasoline Engine:
8. Disconnect fuel charging wiring from crankshaft position sensor (CKP sensor) and A/C clutch.
9. Remove oil bypass filter.
10. Disconnect fuel charging wiring from oil pressure sensor, oil filter adapter bracket and power steering pump and move fuel charging wiring out of the way.
11. Disconnect EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube from RH exhaust manifold.
12. Disconnect EGR back pressure transducer hoses from EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube.
13. Disconnect fuel charging wiring from heated oxygen sensors (HO2S).
14. Lower vehicle.
15. Disconnect all ignition wires from all ignition coils.
16. Disconnect fuel charging wiring from the eight ignition coils and eight fuel injectors and camshaft position sensor (CAP sensor).
17. Disconnect fuel charging wiring from generator (GEN).
18. Disconnect generator wiring harness from power distribution box at front fender apron and from generator.
19. Remove two bolts retaining generator mounting bracket to intake manifold.
20. Remove two bolts retaining generator (GEN) to cylinder block and remove generator.
21. Remove positive crankcase ventilation valve (PCV valve) from valve cover.
22. Disconnect vacuum hose from throttle body adapter vacuum port.
23. Disconnect evaporative emission hose from throttle body adapter port.
24. Remove heater water hoses.
25. Disconnect engine control sensor extension wire from 42-pin connector and eight-pin transmission connector located at power brake booster.
26. Disconnect engine control sensor extension wire from EVR sensor, idle air control valve (IAC valve), EGR transducer, throttle position sensor (TP sensor), ignition coils and fuel injectors.
27. Remove fuel charging wiring retainers from valve cover stud bolts.
28. Remove fuel charging wiring and transmission wiring from bracket on rear of LH cylinder head.
29. Disconnect accelerator cable and speed control actuator cable using a screwdriver or similar tool.
Accelerator Cable:
30. Remove two bolts and intake manifold shield.
31. Disconnect main emission vacuum control connector from fuel injection supply manifold and evaporative emission valve.
32. Disconnect EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube from EGR valve (EGR valve) and remove EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube.
33. Remove accelerator cable bracket stud bolt.
34. Remove five retaining bolts from throttle body adapter to intake manifold.
35. Remove two bolts retaining water hose connection to intake manifold. Position water hose connection and upper radiator hose out of way.
36. Remove nine bolts retaining intake manifold to the cylinder heads and remove intake manifold.
NOTE: The fuel charging wiring, fuel injection supply manifold and fuel injector nozzle tip can remain attached to the intake manifold.
37. Remove intake manifold gaskets.
