End Gap
1. Measure end gap of all piston rings with Feeler Gauge 303-D027 or equivalent.Piston ring end gap should be as follows:
- top ring: 0.13-0.28 mm (0.005-0.011 inch)
- 2nd ring: 0.30-0.55 mm (0.012-0.022 inch)
- oil ring rail: 0.25-0.77 mm (0.010-0.030 inch)
NOTE: These measurements are for measuring the ring gap in a 90.200 mm (3.551174 inch) bore. These values will increase if the cylinder bore exceeds 90.200 mm (3.551174 inch).
Service limit:
- top ring: 0.75 mm max (0.030 inch max)
- 2nd ring: 1.00 mm max (0.039 inch max)
- oil ring rail: 1.25 mm max (0.049 inch max)
2. If end gap is greater than service limit, replace piston ring. If end gap exceeds service limit after new piston ring is installed, rebore cylinder block.
3. Piston rings should be staggered on the piston to make sure the piston ring end gaps are NOT aligned.
