Camshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
PURPOSE
The Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor detects the position of the camshaft when piston number one is at a specific top dead center point of its compression stroke.
OPERATION
The CMP sensor is a single Hall effect magnetic switch, which is activated by a single vane driven by the camshaft. The Hall Effect device signal supplied to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), is used for synchronization of sequential fuel injector firing.
