Engine Off

NOTE:
Valve Train Analysis, Static (Engine OFF) check is to be made on the engine prior to the Dynamic procedure.

INSPECTION
^ Remove the valve covers and inspect the following:
- cylinder head gaskets (6051) for proper installation
- for plugged oil drain back holes
- valve lash

^ Check for damaged and/or severely worn parts and correct assembly. Make sure correct parts are being used.

^ Check Camshaft-Overhead Camshaft Engines for:
- Broken or damaged parts.
- Camshaft lobes, and journals for excessive wear or scoring. Repair or replace as necessary.

^ Check Valve Springs for broken or damaged parts.

^ Check Valve Spring Retainer and Valve Spring Retainer Keys for:
- Proper seating of valve spring retainer keys on valve stem.

^ Check Positive Rotator and Valve Spring Retainer Keys
- Check for proper seating in the positive rotator and on valve stem.

^ Check Valves and Cylinder Head
- Check cylinder head gaskets for proper installation.
- Check for plugged oil drain back holes.
- Check valve lash.
- Check for worn or damaged valve tips.
- Check for missing or damaged guide-mounted valve stem seals (6571).
- Check collapsed valve tappet gap (hydraulic valve tappet applications).
- Check installed valve spring (6513) height.
- Check for missing or worn lower valve spring retainers (6514) (if equipped).
