Engine: Application and ID
DESCRIPTIONEngine parts often differ within a safety certification label family. Verification of identification codes will make sure that the proper parts are obtained. These codes contain all pertinent information relating to the following:
^ dates.
^ optional equipment.
^ revisions.
VEHICLE CERTIFICATION LABEL (VECI)
The vehicle emission control information (VECI) label located on the upper radiator shield area:
^ Engine code (letter or number) used to determine the engine type and size.
^ Identifies the engine calibration number.
^ Revision level.
ENGINE TAG
An engine identification label is also attached to the engine. The symbol code on the identification label identifies each engine for determining parts usage; for instance, engine displacement liters and model year.
EMISSION CALIBRATION NUMBER LABEL
The emission calibration number label is located on the LH side door or LH door post pillar. These numbers are used to determine if parts are unique to specific engines. Always refer to this label when replacement parts are required or when checking engine calibrations. It identifies the following:
^ The engine calibration number.
^ Engine code number.
^ Revision level.
ENGINE CODE INFORMATION
The engine code information label is located on the LH valve cover. The label contains, among other information:
^ Engine calibration number.
^ Engine build date.
^ Engine plant code.
^ Engine code.
