Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and battery to starter relay cable.2. Remove the battery hold down clamp and battery from the vehicle.
3. Remove the battery tray bolts and the battery tray.
4. Remove the engine air cleaner (ACL).
5. Remove the shift cable and bracket from the manual control shift outer lever. Use a screwdriver or suitable tool to pry the shift cable and bracket from the manual control shift outer lever.
6. Remove the shift cable from the transmission shift cable bracket. Remove the lock tab retainer, then press in on the lock tabs to release the shift cable. Pull the shift cable through the transmission shift cable bracket.
7. Disconnect the transmission range (TR) switch electrical connector.
8. Disconnect the two heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connectors.
9. Disconnect the 4EAT electrical connector.
10. Remove the wiring harness bracket from the transmission shift cable bracket.
11. Remove the starter motor.
12. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) connector.
13. Remove the ground strap bracket.
14. Remove the ground strap.
15. Remove the harness support bracket to the generator (GEN) located at the rear engine support insulator bracket.
16. Disconnect and plug the outlet and inlet fluid cooler tubes.
17. Remove the three Transaxle-to-engine bolts.
18. Support the engine with Rotunda Three-Bar Engine Support 014-00750 or equivalent.
19. Remove the two LH engine support insulator nuts and bolt.
20. Remove the LH engine support insulator through bolt.
21. Remove the two fuel filter bracket nuts from the LH engine support insulator bracket. Position the fuel filter and fuel filter bracket aside.
NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel filter.
22. Remove the LH engine support insulator bracket.
23. Disconnect the pulse signal generator (PSG) connector.
24. Raise and support the vehicle.
25. Remove the front wheel and tire assemblies.
26. Remove the LH front fender splash shield and RH front fender splash shield.
27. Remove the six cross member bolts.
28. Remove the cross member.
29. Remove the six rear engine support nuts and two rear engine support bolts.
30. Remove the transmission support cross member.
31. Remove the lower Transaxle support insulator bolts.
32. Remove the lower Transaxle support insulator.
33. Remove the LH front wheel driveshaft and joint and RH front wheel driveshaft and joint.
34. Install Transaxle Plug Set T88C-7025-AH into the differential side gears.
CAUTION: Failure to install the Transaxle plugs may allow the differential side gears to become positioned.
35. Disconnect the vent hose and the oil filler tube.
36. Remove the three inspection cover bolts. Remove the inspection cover.
37. Remove the four flywheel-to-converter nuts.
38. Position Hi-Lift Transmission Jack 014-00942 under the Transaxle and secure the Transaxle to the jack.
39. Remove the two engine-to-Transaxle bolts.
40. Remove the three rear Transaxle support bracket bolts.
41. Use a screwdriver or a suitable tool to separate the transaxle from the engine.
42. Slightly tilt the Transaxle and the engine to ease removal.
43. Remove the Transaxle from the engine and lower the transaxle from the vehicle.
