Installation

1. Raise the Transaxle to the proper height using Hi-Lift Transmission Jack 014-00942 and install the transaxle on the engine.
2. Align the torque converter studs to the flywheel.





3. Install the two engine-to-transaxle bolts. Tighten the engine-to-transaxle bolts to 68-99 Nm (50-73 ft. lbs.).





4. Install the three rear transaxle support bracket bolts. Tighten the rear transaxle support bracket bolts to 67-93 Nm (50-68 ft. lbs.).





5. Install the four flywheel-to-converter nuts. Tighten the flywheel-to-converter nuts to 44-60 Nm (32-45 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the inspection cover.
7. Connect the vent hose.
8. Install the oil filler tube. Tighten the oil filler tube bolts to 8-10 Nm (71-88 inch lbs.).
9. Remove the transaxle plugs and install the front wheel driveshaft and joint.
10. Install the lower transaxle support insulator. Tighten the lower transaxle support insulator bolts to 55-80 Nm (41-59 ft. lbs.).
11. Remove the jack from under the transaxle.





12. Install the transmission support crossmember. Tighten the rear engine support nuts (A) to 75-104 Nm (55-77 ft. lbs.), rear engine support bolts and nuts (B) to 67-93 Nm (50-68 ft. lbs.), and rear engine support nuts (C) to 44-60 Nm (32-44 ft. lbs.).
13. Install the crossmember. Tighten the six crossmember bolts to 94-131 Nm (68-96 ft. lbs.).
14. Install the front fender splash shield. Tighten the front fender splash shield screws to 8-10 Nun (71-88 inch lbs.).
15. Install the front wheel and tire assemblies. Tighten the lug nuts to 89-117 Nm (66-86 ft. lbs.).
16. Lower the vehicle.





17. Install the three transaxle-to-engine bolts. Tighten the transaxle-to-engine bolts to 68-99 Nm (50-73 ft. lbs.).
18. Connect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) connector.
19. Install the ground strap bracket.
20. Install the ground strap.
21. Connect the pulse signal generator (PSG).
22. Install the harness support bracket to the engine block located at the LH engine support insulator bracket.





23. Install the LH engine support insulator and the two nuts and bolt. Tighten the LH engine support insulator nuts and bolt to 67-93 Nm (50-68 ft. lbs.).
24. Install the LH engine support insulator through bolt. Tighten the LH engine support insulator through bolt to 86-116 Nm (63-86 ft. lbs.).
25. Remove Three-Bar Engine Support 014-00750 or equivalent.
26. Install the fuel filter bracket to the LH engine support insulator bracket. Tighten the fuel filter bracket bolts to 8-10 Nm (71-88 inch lbs.).
27. Connect the fluid cooler tube.
28. Install the starter motor.
29. Connect the transaxle electrical connector.
30. Connect the two heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) connectors.
31. Insert the shift cable through the shift cable bracket and pull the shift cable until the lock tabs engage. Install the lock tab retainer.
32. Install the shift cable and bracket on the manual control shift outer lever.
33. Connect the transmission range (TR) switch electrical connector.
34. Snap the wiring harness bracket on the main control bracket.
35. Install the engine air cleaner (ACL).
36. Install the battery tray. Tighten the battery tray bolts to 8-10 Nm (71-88 inch lbs.).
37. Install the battery and battery hold down clamp.
38. Connect the battery cables.
39. Add the specified ATF to the proper level and check for leaks. With the engine at operating temperature, recheck the level and for leaks.
40. Road test the vehicle and check the shift points and shift quality.
