Transmission Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the engine air cleaner (ACL).





3. Remove the two LH Transaxle support insulator nuts and bolt.
4. Remove the LH engine support insulator through bolt.
5. Remove the fuel filter bracket bolts from the LH engine support insulator bracket. Position the fuel filter and fuel filter bracket aside.

NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel filter.

6. Remove the LH engine support insulator bracket.
7. Disconnect the pulse signal generator (PSG) electrical connector.





8. Remove the PSG bolt.
9. Remove the PSG.
10. Inspect the O-ring for nicks and cuts; replace if necessary.

INSTALLATION
1. Apply Motor craft Multi-Purpose ATF XT-2-BDF, -DDF, -QDF or Mercon equivalent to the O-ring. MERCON(R) automatic Transmission Fluid is being replaced by MERCON(R) V as a service fluid, as per TSB 06-14-4.
2. Install the PSG. Tighten the PSG bolt to 8-10 Nm (71-88 inch lbs.).
3. Connect the PSG electrical connector.
4. Install the LH engine support insulator bracket.
5. Install the two LH engine support insulator nuts and bolt. Tighten the LH engine support insulator nuts and bolt to 67-93 Nm (50-68 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the LH engine support insulator through bolt. Tighten the LH engine support insulator through bolt to 86-116 Nm (63-86 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the fuel filter and fuel filter bracket on the LH engine support insulator bracket. Tighten the fuel filter bracket bolts to 8-10 Nm (71-88 inch lbs.).
8. Install the engine air cleaner.
9. Connect the battery ground cable.
