TA - CPP Switch or Park/Neutral Position (PNP) Switch
TA1 CHECK CPP SWITCH FUNCTIONDTC P1797 indicates a clutch pedal position (CPP) switch circuit malfunction.
Possible causes:
- Open in CPP or ground circuit.
- Short in CPP circuit.
- Damaged CPP switch.
- Damaged powertrain control module (PCM).
- Key OFF.
- Connect scan tool to OBD II DLC.
- Key ON, engine off.
- Access PNP PID and observe PID cycling ON/ OFF with clutch pedal released, then depressed.
Does Reading go from ON to OFF?
Yes
- DISCONNECT PCM.
- INSPECT both ends of the connector for damaged or pushed out pins, corrosion, loose wires, etc. SERVICE as necessary.
- If OK, REPLACE PCM.
- RERUN Diagnostic Quick Test .
No
Go to TA2 .
TA2 CHECK CPP SWITCH
- Key OFF.
- Locate the CPP switch near the clutch pedal.
- Inspect switch and bracket for damage, bends, breaks, etc. Service as required.
- Disconnect CPP connector and inspect for damage, pushed out or broken pins, or broken wires, etc. Service as required.
- Measure resistance across the CPP switch terminals with the clutch pedal depressed.
Is the resistance less than 5.0 ohms?
Yes
Go to TA3.
No
- REPLACE the CPP switch.
- RECONNECT all components.
- RERUN Diagnostic Quick Test.
TA3 CHECK CONTINUITY OF CPP CIRCUIT
- Key OFF.
- Disconnect scan tool.
- Disconnect PCM. Inspect for damaged or pushed out pins, corrosion, loose wires, etc. Service as required.
- Install breakout box, leave PCM disconnected.
- Measure resistance between Test Pin PNP/ CPP at the breakout box and the PNP/ CPP pin at CPP harness connector.
- Measure resistance between Test Pin GND at the breakout box and the GND pin at the CPP vehicle harness connector.
Is each resistance less than 5.0 ohms?
Yes
Go to TA4.
No
- SERVICE open circuit.
- REMOVE breakout box.
- RECONNECT all components.
- RERUN Diagnostic Quick Test .
TA4 CHECK CPP CIRCUIT FOR SHORT
- Key OFF.
- Breakout box installed, PCM disconnected.
- CPP vehicle harness disconnected.
- Measure resistance between Test Pins PNP/ CPP and GND at the breakout box and chassis ground.
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes
- REPLACE PCM.
- REMOVE breakout box.
- RECONNECT all components.
- RERUN Diagnostic Quick Test.
No
- SERVICE short circuit.
- REMOVE breakout box.
- RECONNECT all components.
