Vehicle Preparation
Viewing Diagnostic Monitors With New Generation STAR (NGS)When preparing to perform the vehicle drive cycle, it is possible to observe the status of diagnostic monitors using NGS tester. Observing the diagnostic monitors will enable you to determine when Modes 2 and 3 have been successfully completed.
NOTE: NGS will not display a Mode 1 monitor, as Mode 1 does not actively monitor a specific system. You should check the MODE 1 PID when Mode 1 is performed.
To view the diagnostic monitors on NGS, make the following screen selections:
- Select GENERIC OBD II FUNCTIONS.
- Select TESTS
NGS will now display the status of the diagnostic monitors. Scroll the screen down to view all the monitors. When all the monitors have successfully completed, NGS will chime to alert you.
CAUTION: Strict observance of all traffic laws and attention to road conditions are mandatory when proceeding with the drive cycle.
NOTE: Very rough or slippery road surfaces may impact the ability to successfully complete the driving portions of the drive cycle.
The drive cycle procedures should be followed as precisely as possible to guarantee successful completion. Failure to accurately perform the procedures may result in ineffective testing and wasted time. Should the diagnostic monitors fail to complete when the tests have not been accurately performed, it will be necessary to repeat the tests before any concerns may be suspected.
