Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION
The Volume Air Flow (VAF) sensor detects the amount of intake air and converts the measurement into a voltage by means of a potentiometer. The voltage signal is sent to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) which in turn determines fuel injection quantities. The voltage increases and decreases as the VAF sensor opening changes in size. The VAF sensor also incorporates a sensor to detect intake air temperature.

Measuring Core-Volume Air Flow Sensor:

OPERATION
When air is passed through the VAF meter, the measuring core moves parallel to the direction of air flow through the sensor.
