ISSUE:
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate and Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P0300 through P0306 may be stored in memory with no driveability concerns present. This may be caused by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration.

ACTION:
Replace the PCM. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) Tester and retrieve and record all OBD II DTCs.

2. Retrieve freeze frame data by following the procedure outlined in the 1997 Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Service Manual, Page 2B-17.

3. Confirm the vehicle does not exhibit any driveability concerns.

4. If freeze frame data is within the range listed in the example in the Freeze Frame Data Listing, replace the PCM.

5. If freeze frame data is outside the range listed in the example in the Freeze Frame Data Listing, refer to the 1997 PC/ED Service Manual for further diagnosis.

Do not replace the PCM unless freeze frame data is close to the above Freeze Frame Data Listing.





Obtain an Authorized Modification Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
