Disassembly and Assembly

DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove the cylinder head.
2. Remove the HLAs from the cylinder head.

NOTE: Mark the position of the hydraulic lash adjusters (HLA) during removal if any are to be reused.

3. Use Valve Spring Compressor Sets T87C-6565-A and T89P-6565-A 1 (part of Valve Spring Compressor Set T89P-6565-A) to compress the valve springs and remove the valve spring retainer keys.
4. Remove the upper valve spring retainers, valve springs, lower valve spring retainers, and the valves.
5. Use Impact Slide Hammer TOOT-100-A and Valve Stem Seal Remover T89P-6510-D to remove the valve stem seals. Discard the valve stem seals.





6. Use Valve Guide Remover/Replacer T89P-6510-A and a hammer to remove any valve Guides that need to be replaced.

ASSEMBLY
1. Refer to cleaning and inspection for procedures. Cleaning and Inspection





2. Use Exhaust Valve Guide Replacer T92C-6510-BH to install the new exhaust valve guide to the specified height.
3. Use Intake Valve Guide Replacer T92C-6510-AH to install the new intake valve guide to the specified height.





4. Use Valve Stem Seal Replacer T89P-6510-C to install the new valve stem seals. Install the intake valve stem seals to a depth of 16.3 mm (0.641 inch) and the exhaust valve stem seals to a depth of 13.8 mm (0.54 inch).

Install each valve into the port from which it was removed, or for which it was fitted.

CAUTION: Do not use a hammer to install the valve stem seals.

NOTE: The intake and exhaust valve stem seals are different. The exhaust valve stem seal has ridges on the top for identification.

6. Install the lower valve spring retainer, valve spring, and the upper valve spring retainer over the valve.
7. Use Valve Spring Compressor Sets T87C-6565-A and T89P-6565-A 1 (part of Valve Spring Compressor Set T89P-6565-A) to compress the valve springs and install the valve spring retainer keys. Remove the valve spring compressor.
8. Tap the end of each valve stem lightly to make sure the valve spring retainer keys are fully seated.
9. Install the HLAs in the position noted during removal.
10. Install the cylinder head.
