Description

^ The manual transaxles have three separate gear shifter forks for first/second, third/fourth, and fifth/reverse.
^ The helical-cut forward gears are in constant mesh with the corresponding gears on the opposing shaft. The forward gears are selected by means of a synchronizer mechanism. The third, fourth, and fifth gears are mounted on the input shaft. The first, second and reverse gears are mounted on the output shaft. The reverse gears have straight-cut teeth and are engaged through the reverse idler gear by means of a synchronizer.
^ The park/neutral position switch (PNP) switch detects whether the transaxle is in gear or in the NEUTRAL position. The switch sends a signal to the powertrain control modules (PCM) on the transaxle gear selection. The PNP switch is threaded into the bottom RH side of the transaxle.
^ Engine torque is transmitted to the transaxle input shaft and gears through the clutch disc. With a gear selected, power is transmitted through the input shaft to the output shaft. The output shaft drives the ring gear and differential, which in turn drives the front wheel driveshaft and joints.
