Shift Interlock Cable: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the console finish panel.
3. Remove the four transmission control selector dial bezel screws and lift the transmission control selector dial bezel away from the transmission range selector.

Interlock Cable Locknut:





4. Loosen the ignition/shifter interlock cable locknut and remove the ignition/shifter interlock cable from the transmission range selector.
5. Pull the shift cable return clip from the brake pedal.
6. Remove the instrument panel lower side panel.
7. Remove the steering column shrouds.

Control Selector Cable Bracket And Screw:





8. Remove the control selector cable bracket and control selector cable bracket screw from the bottom of the steering column and slide the ignition/shifter interlock cable off the ignition switch lock cylinder.
9. Remove the ignition/shifter interlock cable from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Be careful not to kink the ignition/shifter interlock cable.

1. Slide the ignition/shifter interlock cable on the ignition switch lock cylinder and install the control selector cable bracket and screw on the bottom of the steering column.
2. Tighten the control selector cable bracket screw to 4-6 Nm (37-54 inch lbs.).
3. Install the instrument panel lower side panel.
4. Install the steering column shrouds.
5. Insert the shift cable return clip on the brake pedal.
6. Install the ignition/shifter interlock cable on the transmission range selector. Tighten the ignition/shifter interlock cable locknut to 9-14 Nm (6-10 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the transmission control selector dial bezel on the transmission range selector and install the four transmission control selector dial bezel screws.
8. Tighten the transmission control selector dial bezel screws to 2-2.9 Nm (17-26 inch lbs.).
9. Install the console finish panel.
10. Connect the battery ground cable.
