Removal
1. Disconnect the battery cables.2. Remove the battery hold-down and battery from the vehicle.
3. Remove the three battery tray bolts and the battery tray.
4. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
5. Disconnect the transmission range (TR) sensor electrical connector.
6. Remove the two TR sensor bolts. Remove the TR sensor.
7. Remove the two ground wire bracket bolts.
8. Remove the shift cable from the cable bracket.
9. Remove the two shift cable bracket bolts. Remove the cable bracket.
10. Disconnect the CD4E Transaxle electrical connector by pushing on the retaining ring and pulling up gently on the connector.
CAUTION: Do not pull on the connector wires or use a hammer on the connector.
11. Disconnect and plug the oil cooler outlet and inlet hoses.
12. Remove the two upper starter motor bolts.
13. Support the engine with Three Bar Engine Support 014-00750 or equivalent.
14. Remove the top three Transaxle-to-engine bolts.
15. Remove the two fuel filter bracket nuts.
16. Remove the two ignition coil nuts and position the ignition coil out of the way.
17. Remove the three speed control servo nuts and position the speed control servo out of the way.
18. Remove the three ignition coil mounting strap bolts.
19. Disconnect the wire harness clips from the ignition coil mounting straps. Remove the ignition coil mounting straps.
20. Remove the two nuts and two bolts from the LH engine support insulator.
21. Remove the LH engine support insulator through bolt. Remove the LH engine support insulator.
22. Raise and support the vehicle.
23. Remove the front wheels.
24. Remove both front fender splash shields.
25. Remove the six cross member bolts.
26. Remove the cross member.
27. Remove the six rear engine support nuts and two bolts.
28. Remove the transmission support cross member.
29. Remove the front wheel driveshaft and joints.
30. Remove the intake manifold support bolts.
31. Remove the intake manifold support.
32. Disconnect the S-terminal wire.
33. Remove the B-terminal wire nut and disconnect the B-terminal wire.
34. Remove the lower starter motor bolt.
35. Remove the starter motor.
36. Disconnect the Transmission Speed Sensor (TSS) connector.
37. Remove the four torque converter-to-flywheel nuts through the starter pocket.
38. Remove the front Transaxle support insulator through bolt. Remove the front Transaxle support insulator.
39. Remove the four front Transaxle support bracket bolts. Remove the front Transaxle support bracket.
40. Remove the rear Trans a support insulator through bolt.
41. Lower the vehicle.
42. Lower the Transaxle by loosening the bolt on the Three Bar Engine Support.
43. Raise and support the vehicle.
44. Secure the Transaxle to a suitable jack, using the appropriate adapter.
NOTE: If using Rotunda Hi-Lift Transmission Jack 014-000942, also use Transmission Jack Adapter 014-00790. If using the Rotunda Hi-Lift Jack 164-R3508, it does not require an adapter.
45. Remove the three engine-to-Transaxle bolts.
46. Remove the two remaining Transaxle-to-engine bolts.
47. Use a screwdriver or a suitable tool to separate the Transaxle from the engine.
48. Partially lower the Transaxle from the engine.
49. Disconnect the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) connector.
50. Lower the Transaxle from the vehicle.
