Installation

1. Secure the Transaxle to a suitable jack, using an appropriate adapter.

NOTE: If using Rotunda Hi-Lift Transmission Jack 014-000942, also use Transmission Jack Adapter 014-00790. If using Rotunda Hi-Lift Jack 077-00116, 164-R3508.

2. Raise the Transaxle to the proper height and position the Transaxle on the engine.
3. Align the torque converter studs to the flywheel.





4. Install the Transaxle-to-engine bolts.
Tighten the Transaxle-to-engine bolts (B) to 38-51 Nm (28-38 ft. lbs.).
Tighten the Transaxle-to-engine bolt (C) to 19-25 Nm (14-18 ft. lbs.).
5. Remove the jack.





6. Install the rear Transaxle support insulator through bolt. Do not tighten the rear Transaxle support insulator through bolt fully at this time.





7. Install the front Transaxle support bracket and four bolts. Tighten the front Transaxle support bracket bolts to 38-51 Nm (28-38 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the front Transaxle support insulator and through bolt. Do not tighten the front Transaxle support insulator through bolt fully at this time.
9. Connect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor connector.
10. Connect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) connector.
11. Install the four torque converter-to-flywheel nuts. Tighten the torque converter-to-flywheel nuts to 33-40 Nm (24-30 ft. lbs.).
12. Install the torque converter access plug.
13. Lower the vehicle.
14. Install the LH engine support insulator.
15. Install the LH engine support insulator through bolt. Tighten the LH engine support insulator through bolt to 86-116 Nm (63-86 ft. lbs.).
16. Install the two LH engine support insulator nuts and two bolts. Do not fully tighten the LH engine support insulator nuts and bolts.
17. Remove Three Bar Engine Support 014-00750.
18. Raise and support the vehicle.





19. Install the transmission support cross member. Tighten the:
rear engine support bolts and nuts (B) to 67-93 (50-68 ft. lbs.)
rear engine support nuts (A) to 75-104 (55-77 ft. lbs.)
rear engine support nuts (C) to 44-60 Nm (312-44 ft. lbs.)
20. Tighten the rear transaxle support insulator through bolt to 86-116 Nm (63-86 ft. lbs.).
21. Tighten the front Transaxle support insulator through bolt to 86-116 (63-86 ft. lbs.).
22. Install the starter motor.
23. Install the lower starter motor bolt. Tighten the lower starter motor bolt to 31-46 (23-34 ft. lbs.).
24. Connect the B-terminal wire to the starter motor and install the B-terminal wire nut. Tighten the B-terminal wire nut to 16-23 Nm (12-17 ft. lbs.).
25. Install the intake manifold support and bolts. Tighten the intake manifold support bolts to 37-52 (27-ft. lbs.).
26. Remove Transaxle Plug Set T88C-7025-AH and install the front wheel driveshaft and joints.
27. Install the cross member. Tighten the six crossmember bolts to 94-131 Nm (68-96 ft. lbs.).
28. Install both front fender splash shields.
29. Install the front wheels. Tighten the lug nuts to 89-117 Nm (66-86 ft. lbs.).
30. Lower the vehicle.
31. Tighten the two LH engine support insulator nuts to 16-23 Nm (12-17 ft. lbs.). the two LH engine support insulator bolts to 38-51 Nm (28-38 ft. lbs.).
32. Position the ignition coil mounting straps and connect the wire harness clips to the ignition coil straps.
33. Install the three ignition coil strap bolts.
34. Position the speed control servo and install the three nuts. Tighten the three speed control servo nuts.
35. Position the ignition coil and install the two ignition coil nuts. Tighten the ignition coil nuts to 8-10 (71-88 inch lbs.).
36. Install the two fuel filter bracket nuts. Tighten the fuel filter bracket nuts to 8-11 (71-97 inch lbs.).
37. Install the two upper starter motor bolts. Tighten the upper starter motor bolts to 31-46 (23-34 ft. lbs.).
38. Install the three remaining Transaxle-to-engine bolts. Tighten the Transaxle-to-engine bolts (A) to 89-117 (66-86 ft. lbs.).





39. Install the shift cable bracket and two shift cable bracket bolts. Tighten the cable bracket bolts.
40. Connect the transaxle electrical connector.
41. Install the transmission range (TR) sensor and two TR sensor bolts.
42. Use Transmission Range (TR) Sensor Alignment Tool T94P-770010-AH to align the TR sensor.
43. Tighten the TR sensor bolts to 11-13 Nm (96-117 inch lbs.).
44. Connect the TR sensor electrical connector.
45. Connect the oil cooler outlet and inlet hoses.
46. Install the air cleaner assembly.
47. Install the battery tray. Tighten the battery tray bolts to 8-10 Nm (71-88 inch lbs.).
48. Install the battery and battery hold-down.
49. Connect the battery cables.
50. Add the specified Transaxle oil to the proper level and check for leaks. With the engine at operating temperature, recheck the level and check for leaks.
51. Road test the vehicle and check the shift points and shift quality.
