Starter Drive/Bendix: Adjustments

1. Disconnect the M-terminal wire.
2. Connect the positive (+) battery lead to the starter solenoid S-terminal.

CAUTION: Do not apply battery voltage for more than 10 seconds.

3. Connect the battery ground cable to a clean, corrosion-free portion of the starter field coil.
4. Measure the clearance between the starter drive and the stopper. The starter drive pinion gap should measure 0.5-2.0 mm (0.020-0.078 inch).

5. If the starter drive pinion gap is not within specifications, increase or decrease the number of washers between the starter solenoid and the drive end housing.

NOTE: The gap becomes smaller as the number of washers increases.
