Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Remove the steering wheel.
2. Remove the four lower steering column shroud screws.
3. Separate the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
4. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder illumination miniature bulb from the steering column shroud.
5. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
6. Remove the multi-function switch.
7. On 4EAT and CD4E equipped models, remove the ignition/shifter interlock cable screw.
8. Disconnect the ignition/shifter interlock cable from the ignition switch lock cylinder housing.
9. Use a chisel to remove the two ignition switch lock cylinder bolts.
10. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder housing from the steering column.
11. Disconnect the ignition key reminder switch electrical connector.
12. Use a drill to remove the four pins holding the ignition switch lock cylinder to the housing.
13. Remove the three ignition/shifter interlock cable mechanism screws.
14. Remove the ignition/shifter interlock cable mechanism.
15. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder.
16. Remove the ignition key reminder switch.
INSTALLATION
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
NOTE: Use new ignition switch lock cylinder bolts. Tighten the bolts until the bolt heads break off. Check for proper ignition switch operation.
