ABS Main Relay: Testing and Inspection

1. Remove the anti-lock relay.
2. Measure the resistance between the following terminals of the anti-lock relay:
^ Terminals 4 and 5, 60-100 ohms.
^ Terminals 1 and 3, Greater than 10,000 ohms.
^ Terminals 3 and 6, Less than 5 ohms.
^ Terminals 6 and 8, 50-90 ohms.
^ Terminals 3 and 8, 50-90 ohms.
^ Terminals 1 and 2, Greater than 10,000 ohms.

3. Apply battery voltage to terminal 5 and ground to terminal 4 on the anti-lock relay.
4. Measure the resistance between the following terminals of the anti-lock relay:
^ Terminals 1 and 6, less than 5 ohms.
^ Terminals 3 and 6, Greater than 10,000 ohms.

5. Apply battery voltage to terminal 7 and ground to terminal 8 on the anti-lock relay.
6. Measure the resistance between the following terminals of the anti-lock relay:
^ Terminals 1 and 2, less than 5 ohms.

7. Remove the battery voltage and ground from the anti-lock relay terminals.
8. Place the digital multimeter on diode check mode.
9. Measure the continuity between the following terminals of the anti-lock relay:
^ Terminals 6(-) and 7(+), Continuity
^ Terminals 6(+) and 7(-), No Continuity

NOTE: (+) and (-) refer to the digital multimeter test leads.

10. If the anti-lock relay fails any of the above checks, replace the anti-lock relay. Otherwise, return to the Pinpoint tests. Pinpoint Tests
