Air Cleaner Housing: Description and Operation

Air Induction System:

PURPOSE
The air intake system supplies and controls the amount of air required by the engine for proper operation. To reduce intake air noise, the engine intake air resonator is a part of the system. It is designed to absorb air flow pulsations as air is being drawn into the system.

OPERATION
Air enters the system through the engine air cleaner intake tube mounted at the front of the engine compartment. The air then flows through the Air Cleaner Element (ACL element) and is metered by the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. The metered air passes through the air cleaner to intake manifold tube and engine intake air resonator to the throttle body. From the throttle body, the air enters the intake manifold, where it is mixed with fuel for combustion.
