Tire Runout
1. To maximize performance, inspect tires for signs of improper inflation and uneven wear, which may indicate a need for balancing, rotation, or front suspension alignment. The illustration shows improper wear conditions and typical causes.
2. Check tires frequently for cuts, stone bruises, abrasions, blisters, and for objects that may have become imbedded in the tread. More frequent inspections are recommended when rapid or extreme temperature changes occur, or where road surfaces are rough or occasionally littered with debris.
3. To clean tires, use a mild soap and water solution only and rinse thoroughly with clear water. Do not use any caustic solutions or abrasive materials. Do not use steel wool, wire brushes, gasoline, paint thinner, or similar materials having a mineral oil base. These materials are harmful to tires.
4. Original equipment tires have built-in tread wear indicators to show when tires need replacement. These indicators will appear as 13mm (1/2 inch) wide bands when the tire tread depth becomes 1.58mm (1/16 inch). When the indicators appear in two or more adjacent grooves, at three locations around the tire, or when cord or fabric is exposed, tire replacement due to tread wear is recommended.
